Practical answer from Brave Guys
For a skunk under a deck, first confirm whether the animal is passing through or denning there. Brave Guys evaluates access around the full deck, checks for signs of young, recommends the appropriate lawful removal method and installs exclusion only after clearance.
How to read the situation
Decks provide shade, low overhead protection and multiple escape routes. Because the visible gap may be only one of several openings, simply blocking the spot where a skunk was seen can redirect it beneath another part of the structure.
Recommended sequence
Document every usable opening, not just the first one the homeowner noticed.
Look for repeated travel, bedding, excavation and seasonal signs of young.
Choose placement and handling that fit the deck, property and California requirements.
Use an appropriate barrier and address the full vulnerable edge after clearance.
Avoid making it worse
Avoid reaching under the deck, using smoke or chemicals, or cornering the animal with pets nearby. Give the skunk space and keep the route quiet until it can be assessed.
California handling rules
California guidance says captured skunks may not generally be transported and released elsewhere without written permission from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Brave Guys explains the lawful on-site options and does not advertise a misleading routine relocation service.

Local availability
Choose your location for local property notes, nearby coverage and a page-specific contact path.
Repeated use of the same opening, fresh excavation, concentrated odor and tracks are stronger indicators than a single nighttime sighting.
Not safely without confirming the space is empty. A skunk may be resting under the deck during daylight, and dependent young may remain when the adult is away.
Decorative lattice alone is often not a ground-level wildlife barrier. Exclusion needs secure attachment and resistance to digging, matched to the deck and soil.
Odor work depends on where spray or contaminated material is located. We identify the likely source and explain any cleanup or deodorizing scope separately.

1-Year Brave Guys Exclusion Warranty
If an animal breaks through or re-enters through an entry point Brave Guys repaired within one year of completion, we will return, address or remove the animal as necessary, and repair that same entry point again at no additional charge.
Applies only to qualifying exclusion and entry-point closure work performed by Brave Guys, not automatically to every pest-control service. New openings elsewhere and entry points we did not repair are outside this warranty.
