Our home market
Glendale includes hillside neighborhoods along the Verdugo Mountains and San Rafael Hills, as well as denser central and south Glendale blocks with apartment and condo buildings. Older homes, raised foundations, mature trees, ivy and backyard fruit trees can create several different rodent routes into a structure.
In hillside and tree-lined settings—including Verdugo Woodlands, Rossmoyne, Glenoaks Canyon, Chevy Chase Canyon and Adams Hill—roof rats can travel above ground along vegetation, fence tops and utility lines before reaching the roofline, eaves or vents. At ground level, foundation vents, crawl-space openings and gaps around pipes or additions can provide access.
In multi-unit buildings, shared walls and utility penetrations can connect activity between areas. An inspection still follows the accessible evidence and structure rather than assuming every unit or concealed space has been checked.
Above the ceiling
Mature trees, ivy, fence lines and utility routes can bring roof rats close to a house. Once near the roof, openings at eaves, vents or other roofline areas can lead into the attic or wall voids. Nighttime scurrying, droppings, rub marks or gnawing help guide the inspection.

After removal, the agreed entry points can be sealed. The inspection considers accessible openings high on the building as well as ground-level gaps because roof rats climb and rodents can use very small openings.
Read the full Rat & Rodent Exclusion section. Ask which sealed entry points qualify for our one-year exclusion-repair warranty; terms are on the warranty page.

When rats are using a roofline, eave or vent opening that can take a one-way exclusion door, they can leave through it but not get back in, and that opening is sealed afterward. If you'd rather have full extermination, snap traps are the other option. Arman explains which approach suits your Glendale home, and you make the choice.
